A step-by-step guide for dealing with a phone or laptop fire
It is possible that the lithium-ion battery in either your mobile phone or laptop could overheat starting a potentially disastrous fire.
If it does start to smoke:
- You should unplug it from any plugs or devices it is connected to,
- avoid inhaling any smoke or fumes,
- if possible, move it away from any combustible material – ideally outside.
In order to contain the thermal runaway and resulting fire, you need to use a lithium-battery extinguisher; these extinguishers are specifically designed to tackle and contain lithium-battery fires.
